PhD activities within the field of Sustainable Energy Planning & Management at Aalborg University is part of the International Doctoral School of Engineering, Science and Medicine, which was established in 1993. The International Doctoral School consists of ten doctoral schools each with a doctoral programme. The Energy Planning & Managemant activities is part of the programme in Planning and Development

Each spring in April and/or May the Energy Planning Research group conduct a PhD course in Advanced Energy Systems Analyses on the EnergyPLAN model.  Questions regarding the next course can be sent to Paul Alberg Østergaard (poul@plan.aau.dk). 

As an example the programme from the course on April 7-9 and April 22-24 of 2014 in Aalborg is available here.  You can register for the course by going to https://phd.moodle.aau.dk/ and creating a profile.  Note when signing up: the link https://phd.moodle.aau.dk/ takes you to the course database.  Once you have created a profile, click on "The Doctoral School of Engineering and Science (2014)" and then "Planning and Development".  Scroll down to find "Advanced Energy System Analysis on the EnergyPLAN model" and click on the course to sign up.      

Moreover, some activities is part of the Danish Academy in Wind Energy (DAWE) PhD graduate school. DAWE was established in 2002 as a collaboration between Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Aalborg University (AAU), Risø National Laboratory and Danish Hydralic Institute (DHI) adn supported by the Research Training Council at the Danish Research Council.

Internationally, cities and business pose a significant challenge to sustainable development, both environmentally, socially and economically. In the future, up to 70-80% of the world population will live in cities, and thus it is important to handle the challenges they pose. It is significant that planning is done across sectors and professions likeenergy, water, waste, urban planning, etc. Thus, it is necessary to be able to think across sectors, analyse consequences in multiple areas and include stakeholder such as citizens, companies and environmental organisations.

The Master of Science Programme in Sustainable Cities at Aalborg University Copenhagen will cover issues of engineering such as waste, energy, water resources and transport, as well as political science, green growth and different forms of impact assessment. The graduates from this Master of Science will be educated in being capable of creating the framework for the Sustainable Cities of the future, where economic, social and environmental purposes are integrated in new ways.
